The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Why Markeith Ambles now matters

The Puppy dug up his first wide receiver recruit when Georgia’s Markeith Ambles — neat name for a wideout — pledged for 2010 Tuesday. He’s the four-star, 6-foot-2, 185-pound, go-up-and-get-it type Kiffin familiarized himself with while at USC.

Good start for Tennessee.

Bad omen for the WVU? Maybe.

Ambles’ interest in Tennessee had been tepid because he wasn’t giddy about the quarterback situation. They don’t yet have a guy for 2010 and they didn’t get one last year. Nick Stepehens is the only underclassman … and he’s a junior.

Well, suddenly Ambles is on board and he’ll be an active recruiter for the quarterback the recruiting class needs. That’s not good news for WVU.

Ambles said one of those quarterbacks is Barry Brunetti from Memphis University School.

He and Brunetti got to know each other at UT’s summer camp June 2.

Getting Brunetti to choose UT would take some convincing. He committed to West Virginia in June.

“I know he’s committed to West Virginia,” Ambles said, “but it might change since I’m committed to Tennessee now.”
