The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Grab your shovel!

And by shovel, I mean checkbook. One way or another, even if it involves small changes or great ones, Huggins and the MAC are going to get this practice facility going.

Proof? The MAC’s Legacy Fund, which used to be a rather elite club of major donors, is about to get a little more people-friendly.

The Charleston Marriott will play host to Huggs Fest Aug. 28 and the Legacy Fund will welcome new members at $1,000 a pop. Truthfully, the Fund is there to cover costs for charter flights for the team and the coaches during the season and when recruiting. An optimist — or, I suppose, a cynic — will see the benefit, even if it’s a small one, to the progress of the basketball practice facility.

“Do you know how many $50,000 donations it would take to raise $26 million?” Huggins said.

The Charleston event will help, but won’t solve the matter of having the mandated 80-percent available to begin work.

“You can’t hit $26 million by $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 at a time, but by the same token, right now if somebody wants to give us money to support that project, we’re going to accept it,” Eggleston said. “It’s not our business to turn anyone away.”
