The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Not this night! Let’s go for a full blog day, yes?

By now you’ve seen, or at least surely heard about, LeBron James getting dunked on at his own camp by a college kid, Xavier’s Jordan Crawford. We had a Witness on hand, though Devin Ebanks was playing in a separate game at the time.

He heard the roar and later heard all the stories about it, but didn’t see the video until recently. Verdict? It wasn’t all that great.

“It was OK, but it wasn’t what everybody was thinking.”

The last episode of Seinfeld thought it was disappointing. Not disappointing? What Ebanks and Da’Sean Butler discovered about their Mountaineers upon returning from their offseason showcases — Ebanks had the LeBron James Skills Academy, Butler the World University Games.

Ebanks called it “pretty exciting” while Butler couldn’t contain his excitement.

On Casey Mitchell:

“Casey looks great. He’s a scoring guard and he’s really skilled. He’s got a great touch. He loves to compete, which is always a positive. He wants to get better, which adds to the whole thing. For a shooting guard, he’s all you can ask for, but he’s going to give us more than we ask for. That’s just the way he is.”

On Danny Jennings:

“Danny’s an absolute beast. He’s so competitive and works so hard. He wants to win every last thing, every last game. We played open gym the other day and he lost and he literally didn’t talk to anybody for an hour-and-a-half. He just sat there pissed off. Granted, that’s kind of childish, but that’s actually something you need. People need to be upset if something bad happens so they learn from it and try to keep it from happening again.”

On Dalton Pepper:

“Dalton’s very versatile. He can score inside and outside. He’s still quiet right now, but he’s been around things for a while now and he’s fitting in pretty well.”

I also talked to someone basketball yesterday and we got to discussing the point guard situation. Not only was I assured both Truck Bryant and Joe Mazzulla are working harder than anyone else — “They don’t have a choice.” — but both will be with the team this season.
