More big basketball news!

Monday, 5:26 p.m., MotoQ beeps and I am immediately drawn to an e-mail. This is big. The headline: One of Nation’s Premier Players Transfers to WVU.

Hold the phone! I have to believe this is true. The author is Phil Caskey, of women’s basketball, and surely he wouldn’t embellish. He’s writing a textbook, after all.

The premier player is Ayana Dunning, she of 5.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 13.7 minutes per her 23 games last season.

“Ayana is truly one of the premier post players in the country,” Carey says. “She’s a true low-post threat that has excellent low-post abilities, passing skills and has tremendous shooting skills away from the basket.

“Ayana was highly recruited by all the major programs in the country coming out of high school. I’m happy she’s joining our family. With the addition of her and our outstanding incoming class, the future of Mountaineer women’s basketball is very bright.”

Ah, premier post player and without question one of the premier recruits in 2008.
