‘Don’t come in and Vanderjagt it!’

It took all of one day for the Indianapolis media to fall for Pat McAfee. The now former WVU punter was a guest Monday on the Dan Dakich show — yeah, that Dan Dakich. McAfee, as you might expect, killed it. Especially when the conversation turned to former WVU kickers who played for the Colts.

Said McAfee:

Ah, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this. Mike Vanderjagt. What you need to know is he is not a good representation of kickers from West Virginia. I need you to understand that. I need you to understand that. Please.

Dakich then advised McAfee “don’t come in here and Vanderjagt it” and McAfee assured him he would not.

It’s an honor and a privilege to play for the Indianapolis Colts. I know that. I think I have a good heart and I’m not an idiot. It’s a great place to go to. I’ll never act like an idiot and try to ruin anything or ruin a chance to play for the best franchise in the NFL.

I still contend it’s highly unusual Dakich, who has the reputation of a task master and a disciplinarian, and who in is brief time at WVU gave players the idea he was a bit of a jerk, has a radio show and is really good at it. At least, that’s what people I know in Indy tell me. I might have to go along with this after Dakich opined about the shaky cell service in West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

I was the coach there for, like, 10 minutes and I couldn’t get any cell service.
