The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Luke enjoyed his trip, thank you

Maybe it’s because he wore No. 44 in the Coliseum, or because he attends Notre Dame or perhaps because most of the 13,126 in attendance last night thought he possessed some sort of immunity to over the back calls, but Notre Dame’s Luke Harangody got it as bad last night as any opponent has in quite some time.

Notre Dame got as close as four points the final four-plus minutes, which also featured a scrum between Harangody and Cam Thoroughman as both battled for a loose ball. The two fell to the floor and the crowd cried for blood. His right elbow bloodied, Harangody was called for a foul, then more unprintable names by the student body.

“It’s surprising what they get away with here,” Harangody said of assuming the role of Public Enemy No. 1. “That pumped me up. It was fun playing here.”

A debate rages on as to what the classy student section was chanting. I heard one thing — and it’s as clear on TV as it is unacceptable — but I’ve been told by those who sat courtside it was “Luke’s a fathead.” That almost seems too tame and original for a group whose go-to move in most situations is profanity when, in reality, they’re capable of doing and being so much more.

Huggins thanked the fans, specifically the students following the game, saying the atmosphere in the WVU Coliseum was one of the main reasons the Mountaineers were able to recover from the first half deficit.

“Weren’t our students wonderful?” he said. “I’ve been on them a little bit, but I thought they were incredible tonight. We needed them.

“I don’t think we had as much bounce in our step to start as we needed, and I thought the crowd was phenomenal.”
