THROWBACK THURSDAY: 2002 AAA boys basketball state championship game

In honor of boys basketball season starting around West Virginia this week, today we take a look back at the 2002 Class AAA state championship game between South Charleston and Cabell Midland.

SC, led by a talented group of seniors that included Cedric Hornbuckle and current Penn State men’s soccer assistant coach Chad Duernburger, slipped past Parkersburg South and Riverside on its way to the title game. Midland, which had Evans Award winner and future Marshall standout Mark “The General” Patton leading the way, crushed Greenbrier East in the quarterfinals before a one-point win against Morgantown in the late game on semifinal Friday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Video of the game is linked below. As usual, s/o to the person that uploaded a whole bunch of old West Virginia state championship videos to YouTube.
