Throwback Thursday: 2003 AAA football state title game

AKA The Mud Bowl, AKA The Gum Game, AKA probably the reason they put turf down at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Fun game here with a bunch of big names from the past. On the Martinsburg side, there’s two-time Kennedy Award Winner Brandon Barrett, all-everything quarterback Nate Sowers, the awesome orange helmets I wish they had never gone away from and current Bulldogs coach Dave Walker. For Parkersburg South, one of my all-time favorite prep football players Ben Gum was leading the way. BONUS: Friend of the blog Dave Weekley is on the call. Worth noting: this isn’t my video, it was found on YouTube and the quality dips in and out. Still, one of the great West Virginia prep football state championship games. Enjoy!
