VirtuALL FestivALL Day Nine

From now until the end of June we will post at least once a day with details on what you can experience at home during this pandemic year for Charleston’s annual festival of all arts. For 2020, FestivALL is when The Internet Becomes A Work Of Art. Every day we will bring you up to date on this year’s VirtuALL FestivALL, plus we will flash back to some of our video coverage from previous years, and I will dig into the archives for one post in the Monday Morning Art Exhibit, collecting some of my favorite pieces from the nearly fifteen years that I’ve been posting my original work here in PopCult.

Today’s big events include:

The FestivALL Flashback

In 2012, instead of killing ourselves by trying to produce a daily recap show of FestivALL, I did two, weekly one-hour-plus shows that attempted to cover as much FestivALL goodness as possible. Today we’ll bring you the first of those.

Included in this show is music from Red Audio, Andy Park, Emily Burdette, The Kanawha Kordsmen and Sweet Adelines and Paul Calicoat. We are also treated to an Effects Makeup demonstration by Rob “RJ” Haddy, a finalist on the SyFy program, “Face Off.” Much of the show is devoted to the FestivAll Art Parade, while we finish with scenes of The East End Main Street Streetworks Art Auction and Celebration, and auctioneer Ted Brightwell.

Among the Art Parade fun you’ll see Razor Sharp Productions with Porkchop and Pig Girl, Dale Morton Studio Mascots, Zombies and ghouls from Shocka Con, The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame, The Chemical Valley Roller Girls, The Charleston Light Opera Guild and more!

The Monday Morning Art Exhibit

Today’s entry into the collection comes from May, 2013, and is an example of the kind of Geometric Abstract that I’ve been running in Monday Morning Art all this month. This is one of four pieces that was posted as “Geometric Fun,” but the actual title of this one is “Double Yolk.” Click the image to see it bigger.
