Loads of Music and an Alien Trump on RFC 214

Image11This is the first RFC of 2016, with music from Mojo’s Root Cellar, Under Surveillance, Jordan Andrew Jefferson and The Dread Crew of Oddwood, plus we have animation and a cool announcement.

We shot our host segments on a very cold Sunday afternoon on Hale Street in Charleston. Our title shirt this week is a mash-up of John Carpenter’s classic movie, “They Live,” and the most frightening threat to the future of this country, Donald Trump. This comes courtesy of the world’s greatest artist, Mitch O’Connell. If you want a shirt like this, visit Mitch O’Connell’s website and hit the Buy Stuff link.

Image3Before we jump into the meat of the show, we have some very important announcements from Ultraman, He-Man and She-Ra. Please pay close attention as these are serious topics and deserve your undivided concentration.

Mojo's Root Cellar
Mojo’s Root Cellar

Our first musical guest this week is Mojo’s Root cellar, a new band with some old RFC friends in it. You may recognize some members from Under The Radar, who first showed up on Radio Free Charleston’s fourth episode, almost ten years ago. We caught up with this new musical conglomeration late last October at the Roadside Park in Saint Albans and we kick off 2016 with Mojo’s Root Cellar performing Bill Wither’s classic, “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

Jordan Andrew Jefferson
Jordan Andrew Jefferson

Jordan Andrew Jefferson is based out of Huntington, and is a student of the more melodic side of rock music. Firmly schooled in the ways of The Beach Boys and The Beatles, Jordan creates pop music masterpieces with a genuine style that bristles with creativity. We recorded Jordan last month at the Blue Parrot and here he is with “The Party’s Over,” which can be found on his latest CD which you can buy from Bandcamp.

"Energy Domer Pyle"
“Energy Domer Pyle”

Our animation this week is “Energy Domer Pyle,” by Frank Panucci. If you think that this is just another one of Frank’s one-minute clips of animated DEVO Energy Domes, you’d be wrong.

This one is almost three-and-a-half minutes.

Under Surveillance
Under Surveillance

Under Surveillance is a dynamic band of musicians, most of whom have been making music together in some form for over thirty years. Over the past several months they’ve been working on a new CD with their new lead singer, and “Savannah Moon” is due to be released very soon. We will tell you all about it as soon as it’s available. In a video that the band provided to us we see the band perform their song, “Crisis” at Ritter Park in Huntington.

The Dread Crew of Oddwood
The Dread Crew of Oddwood

On our way out this week we have a song by a scurvy lot, The Dread Crew of Oddwood. This band of California pirates played at The Empty Glass last year, and they’ll star in The RFC MINI SHOW next week. I’ll tell you more about these marauding musicians then. For now, enjoy the show!
