It’s ArtWalk Photo Time!
It’s that time of the month, and this month your PopCulteer actually made it to Downtown Charleston to take pictures of ArtWalk.
I’ve been slacking off a bit this year, mising last month’s ArtWalk and not covering as many galleries as I’d planned for the months before that. I’d determined that July would be the big month where I made up my spotty ArtWalk attendance record this year.
The plan was to hit every gallery yesterday during ArtWalk. It’s been months since I’ve even made it out to ArtWalk, and I wanted to make up for lost time. Then I got in my car and saw this…
…which wasn’t so much of a shock since my car was hot enough on the inside for me to start feeling my internal organs melt. Yet, I soldiered on and made it to six galleries before common sense told me to go home. Well there was also the fact that folks started asking if I were okay.
I’m not terribly frail or anything. It’s just that I’d come off of 19 straight 12-hour days of taking care of my elderly uncle while two of his caregivers were taking a well-deserved vacation. “Burned out” would be a good phrase to use to describe me on my first day off yesterday. This is also why there was no PopCult Bookshelf yesterday. I read a really great book, but was too worn out to write a coherent review. It’ll keep for next week.
To be frank. yesterday I looked like I showed up four months early for the HallowEast Zombie Walk. But I still dragged myself out to take photos for my readers. The Stuff To Do section may be a little incomplete, but there are two big things to consider, and they’re mentioned. But now, look at dem pitchers…
The cool little gallery tucked away in the alley between Hale and Capitol Streets featured the work of Nik Botkin, Todd Griffith and Liz Vicious. The big attraction is Nik’s Hawk, made of cutlery. I could have photographed it all night. That’s what you see at the top right of this post. More photos below…

Stray Dog Antiques
There’s always cool stuff at Stray Dog Antiques. This month the main attraction is the ten-foot tower of vintage aprons, constructed by Andrea Anderson…

Stuff To Do
That’s it for this week’s PopCulteer. RFC 188 will hit one week from Monday and all our regular features should be here as well.
