A Loaded Weekend And The ArtWalk Photo Essay
March 16, 2012 by Rudy PanucciSo many things are going on this weekend that we actually started it last night with ArtWalk, which you will see in photo essay form below. But first, let’s look at the stuff to do.
The Pub Crawl
This weekend’s big event is St. Patricks East End Pub Crawl. Saturday, March 17 from 6-10 PM it’s time for shamrocks and spirits as five
of the most popular East End pubs and restaurants in Charleston host the first ever Pub Crawl.
The pub crawl will run from 6 to 10 PM at five East End venues: Bluegrass Kitchen, Tricky Fish, the Little India Lounge, the Red Carpet Lounge and The Empty Glass. There will be food and drink specials, as well as live entertainment. Participants can earn prizes in the Shamrock Challenge, where they try to find 15 “strategically placed” shamrocks in the five locations and upload images of them onto a Facebook fan page.
And watch RFC 151 to see a brief plug, too.
Square Meal is a mini-grant opportunity for artists in music, dance, visual, theater, literary and film, arts organizations and other creative projects.Four projects will be preented during the dinner, and diners will vote on who receives the grant.
There have been three events so far and number four is coming up this coming Tuesday, March 27 from 6-8 PM at Timothy’s located inside the revitalized Quarrier Diner on 1022 Quarrier St. Reservations for the meal are $16 ($10 grant, $5 food, $1 Arts Council of the Kanwha Valley) until Sunday, March 25. Late reservations and at the door pricing will be $21 ($10 grant, $5 food, $5 ACKV). Reservations are limited to 50. Tickets can be purchased online at http://artskv.org/support-ackv (PayPal fees apply) or mailed to ACKV 229 Capitol St. Charleston, WV 25301.
The presenters for this event will be Po’Folks Caberet, Kanawha Players,
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, Bad Reception. This is a great way to support the local arts scene and score a great meal at the same time.
The ArtWalk Photo Essay
ArtWalk has sprung forth after its Winter nap. As always, your PopCulteer took his trusty camera out to capture some highlights. This time ArtWalk kicked off their tenth year with a special observation of Anne Saville and Taylor Books, who have participated in every ArtWalk. Your PopCulteer got a very late start on this photo essay, so the captions are more sparse than usual.
