Belting it out

I’ve kept up with the Kanawha Kordsmen since joining two years ago, but I don’t get to every performance (or even every practice).

I thought about getting this hat and wearing it to the gym, but figured that would just lead to even more awkward conversations.

Year one, I went up to the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Johnny Appleseed District convention in Cleveland, but I didn’t go last year. There was too much going on with me and getting away for the weekend seemed impossible.

TBT: Kanawha Kordsmen

People sometimes ask if there’s been anything I’ve stuck with. There have been a few things, including the Kanawha Kordsmen, Charleston’s barbershop chorus.

This weekend is the annual Johnny Appleseed District Convention in Columbus, Ohio. We’re headed up to sing –and this year, I’ll be going along again.

I’m looking forward to it.

If you’d told me a few years ago, I’d be spending my Monday evenings singing barbershop harmony songs, I’d have said you were nuts, but it’s been a good run with the guys. They’ve welcomed me into the fold and while I’m not some great vocalist, I contribute in my small way and it works.

At least, the shoes still fit.

Anyway, here is what preparations were like just before the contest two years ago.

More than a year ago, I stumbled into the idea of taking a month to explore a topic I didn’t know much about. One topic led to another and then another and so on.

Wednesday Weigh-In

This week’s weigh-in follows a recent visit to my doctor.

I’d been both excited and a little worried about going in to Spring Hill Primary. I hadn’t seen Dr. Bradford since late January/early February. Things were looking good, as far as my weight-loss and blood pressure, but the rest was all kind of up in the air.

For those of you just joining or who forgot, I didn’t jump into any of this because I’m looking for a beach body –or even because I wanted to do a Spartan Race to begin with.
