The folks at the YMCA sent a note about an open house for the downtown Y yesterday.
There wasn’t a lot I could do with it at the time, but thought it was worth passing along, in the effort to share the wealth about health and fitness.
I haven’t used the downtown Y much lately, except as a place to get a quick shower and change clothes, but the YMCA has done quite a bit of work on the old YWCA since they took it over.
They’ve added some fancy exercise bikes, are doing a few more classes aimed at the daytime, downtown crowd –and they do have pretty decent parking.
Anyway, if you’re interested in finding an entry-level fitness place, someplace to get started and maybe figure out what’s going to work for you, the YMCA is pretty decent and worth checking out.
The open house is today from 4 to 7 p.m. It looks like they’re offering a swim lesson, some yoga and basketball, along with a couple of talks about nutrition and something to do with art.
There may or may not be snacks. The flyer said nutrition talk and smoothies. Maybe there will be smoothies. Maybe you’ll just hear about how smoothies are made –spoiler alert, mostly you just put fruit, ice and some kind of liquid into a blender and hit a button.
The address for the downtown Y, in case you need it, is 1114 Quarrier Street.
