One Month At A Time

Wednesday Weigh-in: Thursday edition

It’s been a busier than usual week. Well, no that’s a lie. It’s been a new normal week, which is to say is that it’s busier than it was a year or two ago.

I’ve also been preparing for the imminent arrival of my Dad from Michigan, which has jostled my schedule a little.

Not only am I late getting to the blog, but I’ve had to cut back on some of my extracurricular activities.

I’ve been keeping up with my exercise, however, and have largely stayed on task with my calorie counting.

Most of the weight-loss and fitness people hammer the point that any diet you take on has to be one you can live with. You have to be able to break training every once in a while. You have to be able to grab a burger or a slice of pizza with your friends.

For a while, I was really kind of beating myself up if I “lapsed,” but I’m doing much better with allowing myself to go over my calorie number.

Here’s how I’m doing.

Current weight: 189 pounds. Holy cow. It’s starting to feel like the goal line is in sight.

Starting weight: 253 pounds.

Current goal weight: 170-ish pounds.

Weight medical professionals believe I should be: 144 –the actual total weight from the plates of General Tsao’s Chicken I ate after I visited my first all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.

Also the number of minutes it took me to recover from that kind of a pig-out.

Blood pressure: 118/78, but it’s probably not accurate. The same machine thinks my pulse was 43 beats a minute, which is around the point that a a paramedic should intervene with the medical taser thing.

I’ll bet this thing is on Amazon.

Number of times different people have spoken to me about my weight-loss and/or doing CrossFit in the last week: A bunch. Every time I lose a pound now, the number seems to jump up again.

A couple of people have told me I look younger. Of course, they may not have known my actual age.

Number of those people who said they couldn’t change their diet or exercise: Three. I’m also getting lots of great diet tips, like I shouldn’t count calories or I should invest in some quartz crystals.

I don’t have any recipes for how to prepare quartz crystals, however.

Number of people I’ve bored to tears explaining/complaining about my diet, the calorie deficit and exercise: Every day, a few more.

Caffeine: Yes, but I don’t think it’s working.

Cans of diet soda consumed this week: I go back between (vaguely) flavored seltzers and diet soda.

I only drink the flavored seltzers if there’s no diet soda or I feel like I deserve to suffer a little.

Notable fitness accomplishments: Sunday, I ran two miles. That’s just crazy. I had trouble with the stairs at work sometimes just a few months ago.

Also, drinking beer while doing CrossFit. More about that tomorrow.

This, apparently, is diet beer. It reminds me of the flavored seltzers.

Days until the Spartan Race in WV: 156 (August 24)

Captain America t-shirt: It’s Thursday. It’s always a Captain America t-shirt day on Thursday.

General outlook: Hungry. Hunger has been a constant the last few days.
