The Herd wore shoulder pads for the first time this preseason, and we started to see some practice that looked more like actual football. It won’t be much longer until Marshall is in full pads and we get the whole shooting match.
Both offense and defense had some bright spots. Offensively, Brandon Byrd and Steward Butler both had long runs for touchdowns in 11-on-11 drills. Defensively, Raheem Waiters grabbed a pick-6 on a short Gunnar Holcombe attempt for Angelo Jean-Louis. Freshman Kendall Gant nearly had another Holcombe INT on a throw across the middle, but the pass bounced off his hands.
Gant won’t be the only freshman working with the veterans on Thursday. Doc Holliday said the team was getting a little thin on healthy bodies, so he was changing the split-session practice to one practice with the entire team.
