The year of the trophy

McCune and his biggest buck

This would have been a good year to be John McCune.

McCune, a teacher at East Bank Middle School in East Bank, W.Va., had the sort of archery season all bowhunters aspire to.

In less than a month, McCune bagged a 250-pound black bear, a 10-point, 140-class trophy buck, and an even larger 10-point buck that has yet to be rough-scored.

McCune’s story is here, in the Gazette-Mail’s Woods & Waters section.
