Each Friday, Carlee and I will be sharing some of our favorite things in beauty, fashion or just in general. We’re calling this series “Friday Favorite,” because it makes sense.
I LOVE skincare. Makeup always looks better when skin is hydrated and healthy. Plus, foundation and products apply easier from my own experience.
For the last few months, I’ve been using a liquid exfoliator that I can’t wait to tell you about. It’s really been a savior to my skin, which I classify as oily and acne-prone.
I started getting breakouts under my jawline maybe a year ago. Usually when I have a breakout, they’re around my chin and mouth area and if you know anything about face mapping, you know this is generally caused by hormones.
I couldn’t figure out if these jawline breakouts were coming from my headphones, makeup brushes/sponges or just from me resting my chin on my hand occasionally. This has never been a problem area for me. So, I kept my headphone cables clean if I used them. I gave my brushes and sponges baths each week and I caught myself when I started to touch my chin or face. The spots wouldn’t go away completely and more kept coming. It wasn’t enough to conceal with makeup and spot treatment cream wasn’t proactive, but reactive.
There’s a ton of products out there that claim to reduce redness, clear and repair skin, prevent breakouts, hydrate, reduce wrinkles, etc. but my best luck has been with Paula’s Choice aside from seeing a dermatologist as a teen.
I haven’t tried a product from Paula’s Choice that I didn’t love, but I’ve been most impressed with the company’s exfoliators. The one I use is the CLEAR Regular Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution (with 2 percent salicylic acid, a common ingredient for fighting acne). Their BHA liquid exfoliator is also good, and is a top selling product for the company.
How I use it:
I use my exfoliator twice a day (morning and before bed) after cleansing my face. If you’re thinking about trying it, I would recommend starting at once a day so you can see how your skin responds to it first.
I take about a dime size amount of liquid on a cotton round and wipe it over any problem areas first and then over the rest of my face and neck.
Like all Paula’s Choice products, this liquid is gentle and doesn’t have a fragrance of any kind.
After just one use, you can tell a difference in your skin’s texture. It’s smoother. It’s weird. It’s GREAT. Within a couple of uses, you can see redness reducing or bumps fading. It took a week or so before my jawline was clear again, but it worked wonders.
My skin mostly stays clear because I have continued using the exfoliator and have no plans on going without it anytime soon.
The price point is a little steep at $27 for 4 ounces, but depending on how much you use at a time, a little bit goes a long way.
If you have troubled skin, I HIGHLY recommend trying this, or at least checking out what Paula’s Choice has to offer and read the reviews. The American-based and manufactured company doesn’t test on animals, guarantees a full refund for dissatisfaction and is usually very quick with their shipping. You also get three free samples with each order, so there’s that.
What skincare products would you recommend to a friend? Tell me in the comments!
