Hoops scheduling issue

May 6, 2013 by Doug Smock

This jumped out at me this morning, courtesy of Andy Katz: The Big 12 is going to¬†accommodate West Virginia in basketball scheduling, as far as minimizing the effect of road trips, etc. Seems like common sense, don’t you think?

For Conference USA, it would be bloody novel concept. A Friday-Sunday or Thursday-Saturday swing would help schools on the outer edges of the league’s footprint, such as Marshall, Old Dominion, the Florida schools and Texas-El Paso.

But has the league ever made the slightest push for this? Noooooooooooooooooooo. In fact the coaches and athletic directors have so been hell-bent on keeping a Wednesday-Saturday routine, Marshall had given up that issue.

I am hoping the newcomers to the league can help bring some sense … much like the Big 12 is doing.
