C-USA in the NFL draft, 2006-13

April 29, 2013 by Doug Smock

So what’s more depressing for a Marshall fan: The fact the Herd had four draft picks from 2006-13 vs. 12 for Central Florida and 9 for SMU, or the fact that Tulsa had THREE and still won the most league games during that period.

Some things to take away:
— Seven of the 2006-13 schools had more draft picks than did MU (including Rice). While we know the Herd has had a good record with undrafted free agents, this is telling.
— Two incoming schools, Louisiana Tech and Florida International, have had more than MU. But they combine for 13 of the 18 produced by the nine schools.
— There were but five first-round picks among any of these schools. Believe it or not, Memphis had two. Houston had two and East Carolina one.
— UTEP hasn’t had a draft pick since 2008 and Tulane hasn’t had one since 2009. They are a combined 24-72 since those picks.

So, hey, the Herd should have done better, but could have done worse.
