Grades for UAB game

OFFENSE: B
Finally hit the 400-yard mark and converted 10-of-20 first downs, but the running yards were tougher than expected.

DEFENSE: A-
This may be nitpicking, but I will deduct for the 43-yard touchdown. Good play call by UAB, but still… Otherwise, a great performance, including a goal-line stand that turned the momentum.

SPECIAL TEAMS: B
40 yards a punt, key KO return by Troy Evans, Tyler Warner hit 41-yard field goal and the kickoff team quit squibbing — and got a better results.

QUARTERBACKING: A-
BA had one big brain cramp and he admitted as much … check my notebook. Otherwise, he hit two bombs, threw for 304, found Lee Smith 9 times… Great game on the road.

COACHING: A
The adjustments were many: Quit squibbing, stopped Jeffery Anderson down the middle, found ways to keep jacking up the pressure on Byron Ellis… It was a good argument for staying the course.

OVERALL: A
Are you kidding? These guys were 9.5-point dogs and played like 9.5-point favorites. On the road, no less.
